"Not even 30 years old and I was in so much pain that I couldn’t walk"

Meet Brent @brentmoves sharing his own story with us. These are his words ❤

.

"I was diagnosed with several herniated discs that left me immobilized. The right side of my body, head to toe, experienced paralysis from my discs pinching my nerves. “Surgery is the only option,” several doctors told me. I refused to believe it. I wouldn’t accept it

.

.

I was bed ridden, unable to walk without a back brace and a cane. I couldn’t use stairs. I couldn’t get in a car to go anywhere. I couldn’t sit

.

I took the same dosage of Morphine as a cancer patient. I couldn’t move enough to perform physical therapy. Nothing worked

.

I turned to my yoga mat. Slowly at first. Very slowly. I started by just laying on it for a few minutes a day. I couldn’t leave the house to go to a yoga class - it was hard enough getting out of bed and onto my mat. I began a daily practice following along on YouTube. Months went by before I could get into a downward dog

.

I connected with my body through yoga in unprecedented ways. I stopped blocking out my pain and learned the source of it. I became familiar with my limits, what movements helped or hurt me

.

I began to accept my body for what it was, not what I wanted it to be. I developed the habit of listening to my body, not telling it what to do

.

I continue to practice daily. I am very physically active. I am off all pain killers. I made it through this experience without surgery because of yoga

.

Yoga saved my life.
