Meet @eyeofthelotusyoga sharing her #yogasavedmylife story with us 💚

"Mental & emotional abuse became verbal & physical but still I stayed because I thought we were in love...

I first found asana quite young (13ish) but it wasn’t until I discovered meditation at around 16 that I realized the true power of yoga

.

I have dealt with severe anxiety for as long as I can remember & feel that yoga helps me to keep a clear mind & push out depressive thoughts. It has such a positive impact on my mental health. Not to say that I don’t have bad days. I'm still human (for now) but even when the negativity comes, I'm able to separate myself & focus on my breath to find some calm & be in my truth

.

Passionate about sharing what yoga had done for me, I decided to get my teaching certificate. In doing so, I got more than I had bargained for

.

I met a man in my class & after getting certified, we traveled the U.S. for about three months before moving in together

.

Everything seemed really great at first, until I started to recognize the red flags: mental & emotional abuse became verbal & physical but still I stayed because I thought we were in love. I was feeling weak & worthless but knew I had to get out of the situation if I had any hope of being myself again

.

I took a pretty significant break from yoga which was not helpful in any way. But once I was finally ready to revisit my practice, I was stronger than ever. I don’t say this for pity but to remind you that we can overcome anything so long as we remember our worth

.

My sadhana isn’t just about me anymore. When I teach, my life has meaning. I love holding space for my yogis; watching them grow on the mat & thrive right before me: there truly is nothing better than that

.

It is my mission to emphasize the other, equally important limbs of such as meditation & pranayama. Focusing on the fact that yoga is so much more than just asana

.

I hope that i’m able to share this light that yoga allowed me to cultivate with as many people as possible, helping to change even more lives through yoga. Let the healing begin 🙏
