Meet Jason @yogibear605 (pictured with @trinifoundation founder @taylorhuntyoga) on the final post of the Trini takeover. Its been an privilege to share stories highlighting the foundation's inspirational work bringing yoga & tuition scholarships to those fighting addiction. These are Jason's words 💚 .
.
"I got sober and continue to stay sober through the 12 steps - a spiritual program of action. This is why yoga has become such a strong pillar on top of the foundation I formed in Alcoholics Anonymous. After I completed my first block of step work, I was searching for spiritual direction because I had no real solid ideas from my upbringing
.
.
After reading Ram Dass "Be Here Now" I decided eastern philosophy was for me. From there, things started to fall into place. In 2014, one of my friends in the program graduated from a YTT program and was looking for support, so I followed her into a power yoga class with roots in Ashtanga Vinyasa. After just 3 classes, I fell in love. I continued to practice sporadically until the beginning of 2017 when I completed a YTT program. During that training, we briefly studied Ashtanga As It IS & when I walked into Yoga Mudra my life changed
.
That day I felt a shift. I touched something that took me deeper & I have not been the same since. I found our only local Ashtanga studio in Wichita, KS & I started to practice to the best of my ability, although I was still very sporadic. Ashtanga became like a mirror for me. It is one of the deepest forms of self-reflection I have ever experienced
.
It has taught me discipline, how to trust the process and how to not be too hard on myself, among other things. Ashtanga has helped me grow in that area in such a huge way that I cannot even express
.
Today, Ashtanga, & the steps in my life (and also therapy), is a combination that keeps me growing and helping myself so that I may help others 🙏 Jason"
